IBM Sustainability Software - Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against the products and services belonging to IBM Sustainability Software. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

ReqIF Export and Import Across Multiple DOORS Next Components in a Global Configuration linked to ENGR-MDN-590 idea

Context: In many DOORS Next deployments, the decomposition model follows a one module = one component approach to enable baselining at module level. As a result, a single document or specification may be distributed across multiple components and streams within a Global Configuration.

Problem: ReqIF exchanges are difficult when the content to export is spread across several DOORS Next components within the same Global Configuration. Today, users need a way to export multiple modules from different components while preserving their context and traceability links. Importing the ReqIF back also requires proper mapping between components, modules, and links.

Impact: ReqIF exchanges become complex and error-prone. Traceability between modules may be lost or difficult to restore, increasing the effort for supplier/customer exchanges, reviews, and round-trip collaboration.

Goal of the Idea: Enable ReqIF export and import at the Global Configuration level, covering multiple modules located in different DOORS Next components.

Why is it Useful?

  • Simplifies ReqIF exchanges across component-based architectures.
  • Preserves links and traceability between modules.
  • Supports module-level baselining strategies.
  • Reduces manual mapping and data consistency risks.

How Should it Work?: Provide a GC-based ReqIF export/import capability allowing users to select modules from multiple components within a Global Configuration, export them together, and re-import them with mapping support for components, modules, and traceability links.
