Comparison of different repository files using external compare tool

External Compare tools can be utilized when comparing different versions of the same file, however if two different files are selected in repository files view for compare, it is currently only possible to use the internal compare capability which is less feature rich than other external compare tools (for example no binary compare of binary files)

Example use case:

User has two similar files which they want to compare for differences.

1. Setup Eclipse for external compare tool

In Eclipse: menu Window->Preferences

Select Preference Team->Jazz Source Control->External Compare Tool

Set "Use an External Tool For Compare" to "Always"

Set "External Compare Tool to Use" to one supported on the device

2. Attempt to Compare two different files

In Repository files view, select two files (recommend the same type and a text file) then Right Click and select "Compare"

  • Currently only the internal compare tool is opened, the enhancement will be for the external compare tool to be opened.

    - The EWM RFE Review board looked at this and decided to keep it on the Backlog as an uncommitted candidate for a future release.
