EWM Eclipse - Add option for opening the location of a file in file explorer

The behavior of what "Open Local File" opens, how and if it can be saved is not predictable for a user and he will always assume it opens in a way it can be saved as well, but sometimes it is not saved correctly. Several colleagues already have lost hours of work because they edited files that were not saved afterwards. This needs to be prevented!

Can this "Open Local File" be hidden, as it jeopardizes hours of work?

    The EWM Ideas review board has evaluated this request. While it would certainly be possible to improve the workflow in Eclipse for opening files that need to be edited in an external editor, this request is unlikely to be addressed in the next 18-24 months due to other higher-priority items on the Backlog. Although we are closing this request, it will be kept in IBM's ideas repository and may be reassessed or reopened for additional discussion in the future

    Can there be something like "Open Containing Folder"? Or is it already an option for this?

    The "Open Local File" action uses Eclipse API to open the file. The default settings have always been problematic for Microsoft files as Eclipse tries to embed the editor. It is recommended you try using the setting in Eclipse to disable this to see if it helps. (refer to the attached screenshot).

    • XLSX, DOCX, PPTX: files seems to be somehow opened in internal editor window (but not displayed) + opens in PDF external editor tool installed on PC. After it's modified in external editor, saved and closed, the changes are lost. The not visible file in the internal editor needs to be closed as well. Opening and closing takes very long.
