Formatting Output of SCM/LSCM

A nice feature to add to the scm/lscm command line tools would be the ability to format the output.  We have a situation here that if you use this command:

lscm -a n -u y list files -w <workspace name> -n <file name>

you get three lines of output.  It would be preferable to have it all on one line so that it is easier to parse for the information in it.  It would apply to other commands as well, where the user may not need all of the data output from it, just a select subset of the data.  It would make creating scripts easier and cleaner.

This capability is found in cleartool (part of ClearCase).  The users can add the -fmt option to their command line request and they can get the data in the order and the format they prefer.

The EWM Ideas review board has evaluated this request. This request, while valid, is being rejected as it is possible to do this using other existing options.

The RFE requests ability to format scm/lscm output which is easy to parse through scripts. The output provides some formatting capabilities with using json as an option. This returns the output in json format which is more structured and can be easier to consume programmatically.
