[EWM]: Ability to insert source code blocks in HTML fields

Context: EWM users would like to insert source code blocks within HTML fields in order to clearly distinguish regular text from code. This feature is essential for highlighting code excerpts across various types of work items. However, no native formatting option currently exists for this purpose. Users must rely on workarounds (monospace fonts, manual indentation, approximate highlighting), which reduces readability and increases the risk of errors.

Problem: EWM does not provide a native feature to insert a code block in an HTML field. This leads to:

• poor readability of work items containing code,

• errors during technical reviews or validation,

• wasted time due to manual formatting workarounds.

Impact: Without a native code block feature, users lose confidence in EWM’s ability to properly handle technical information. Many prefer documenting code in external tools which fragments information and negatively impacts traceability across the ELM ecosystem.

Goal of the idea: Add a feature in EWM HTML fields that allows users to insert a code block (similar to what exists in Markdown, GitHub, Confluence, etc.). Such a block should:

 • preserve indentation,

• use a monospace font,

• be visually distinct from regular text,

• ideally support basic syntax highlighting.

Why it is useful?:

• Improves readability and quality of technical work items. • Reduces interpretation errors during reviews.

• Encourages users to centralize technical information within EWM rather than relying on external tools.

• Strengthens trust in the tool and in the consistency of project data.

How should it work?: In the EWM HTML editor, add

: • a “Code Block” button in the toolbar,

 • or an option in the context menu,

• or a predefined “Code Block” style.

Technically, the block could be implemented using a standard structure such as: <pre><code>...</code></pre> or any other format compatible with the EWM HTML editor. Users would then be able to paste or type their code, which would automatically be formatted and visually isolated from the rest of the text.
