Enable queries and widgets based on approval status of work items

We would like to request an improvement for ALM/EWM queries and widgets.

Currently, work items can have several approvals with different states, for example open or approved. However, this approval information cannot be used in queries or widgets.

Use case:

We have many Stories in Review state. Some of them still have open approvals, while others have all approvals already approved. When all approvals are done, the Story should be moved to the next workflow state.

Today, it is not possible to create a query to find all Stories in Review state where all approvals are approved or where no approval is still open.

Requested improvement:

Add support for approval status in queries and widgets, so users can filter work items based on approval information, for example:

  • work items with open approvals
  • work items where all approvals are approved
  • work items with approvals assigned to a specific person

This would help teams to find work items that are ready for the next workflow step and reduce manual checks in the Approval tab of each work item.
