Prevent selection of versioned artifacts from an invalid Global Configuration when linking from EWM

When creating a link from an EWM CCM work item to a versioned artifact, such as a requirement in DOORS Next, users should only be able to select artifacts that are valid within the Global Configuration (GC) context associated with the work item.

Currently, the artifact selection dialog can display requirements that belong to a different or otherwise invalid GC context. Although ELM subsequently prevents the invalid link from being saved and displays a warning, the user can continue with the selection process and attempt to select the invalid requirement.

Requested enhancement

The selection dialog should prevent users from selecting versioned artifacts that cannot be linked in the applicable GC context.

After the system detects that the selected artifact belongs to an invalid GC, it should prevent further invalid selection. Possible behaviors include:

  • Filter out artifacts that do not belong to the applicable GC so that they are not offered for selection in the first place. This is the preferred behavior.
  • Alternatively, disable the invalid artifacts so that they cannot be selected.
  • After the GC validation warning is acknowledged, close the selection dialog instead of allowing the user to proceed.
  • The OK action should not be enabled when the selected artifact is invalid for the current GC context.

Expected behavior

Users should only be offered artifacts that can actually be linked successfully within the applicable Global Configuration context. This would prevent invalid selections earlier in the workflow instead of detecting the incompatibility only after the user has selected an artifact.
