Use a cache to prevent unnecessary loading of dynamic referenced templates

Developing ELO-PUB templates can be slow at the best of times however we breakup our templates into libraries of templates so they can be maintained apart. We use dynamic referencing of templates in our master template. Each time the template is loaded it needs to download each referenced template (approx 2megs in size) which takes approx 1 second. Given that we have around 30 sub templates this adds 30 seconds of load time for the master template. When you try to execute the template it then re-downloads the templates again.. taking another 30 seconds for each development run for the template. The idea is to use a template cache so that it does NOT need to be downloaded IF it has not been modified. A simple sha-2 check against the server should be able to work out if the file has changed from the local copy. This will speed up execution time and development time immensely.  This should also speed up the save time to the Document Builder.

    Hi PUB Dev team,

As discussed in skill case, please continue to implement this idea using sample templates provided. Please note parent template is located in either in PUB client or Document Builder (child is always in Document Builder). Perhaps use of temp folders is different in these 2 scenarios.

Please update here regularly, as this is the only way for us to know the progress. Thank you

As part of the review process, we strive to be transparent about our intentions with each enhancement suggestion. The IBM Engineering team has reviewed this idea, and based on our understanding, it is accepted as an uncommitted candidate. NOTE that based on the PUB team investigation, it would be possible to implement this request but there are concerns about the RAM usage/impact. Hence, when implementing this idea in the future, I would envision the need for manual and automated heap/RAM management as caching templates come at the RAM cost. If there is no sufficient RAM, it could bring the system down.
