Virtual data sources

Working on a report for a client where this feature would fix everything. We have a requirement artifact in DOORS Next. That requirement has incoming "Parent Of" links. The incoming "Parent Of" linked artifacts themselves have incoming "Parent Of" links. The client wants to a report where they can specify how many link "hops" to go down. The way PUB works now is that if I am going down 2 link hops, I need 3 data sources defined (the original data source, incoming level 1, incoming level 2) and all of these data sources are exactly the same. However, if I need 5 link hops, I need to define those data sources first and then I can make my report.

If a "Virtual data source" existed, I could traverse those hops and PUB could do the heavy lifting in the background. I'd create a data source called something like _lowerLevel and I would base it on say, the "Views" data source. And I could then reuse this virtual data source down the line as normal.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for submitting this idea. May I schedule a meeting with our dev team and you next week to understand it better?
