Proposal to Simplify iFix Upgrade Process for PUB with Direct WAR Patch Deployment

I would like to propose an improvement to the current iFix upgrade process in the Publishing Document Builder. Currently, upgrades require a side-by-side installation, which involves installing a new instance, copying necessary files, and then uninstalling it. This approach is time-consuming, resource-intensive, and increases the risk of manual errors.

Instead, I suggest providing WAR files directly as patch updates that can be applied to the existing application. This would eliminate the need for repeated installations and simplify the overall upgrade process.

Moreover other applications like JRS, LDX and LQE provide the WAR files for iFix upgrade.

Key Benefits:

  • Faster upgrades with fewer steps
  • Reduced disk space and memory usage
  • Lower risk of manual errors

Adopting this approach will make upgrades more efficient, user-friendly, and scalable across environments.

I've been using Update option in IBM Installation Manager since version 7.0.2 SR1 with success by following my own specific rules. If PUB iFix could be configured the a right way, this process could be simplified even more.
