Prevent Partial Imports When Excel Import Fails

When importing data from Excel into a Module, if the import process fails, the system currently applies partial changes before failing. This behavior forces users to manually undo all modifications before attempting to re-import the corrected Excel file.

It would be highly beneficial if the system could automatically roll back all changes when an import fails, ensuring that no partial updates are committed.

Proposed Solution

  • The import should only commit changes if all records are successfully validated and imported.
  • If any record fails, no changes should be applied to the system.
  • The user should receive a clear error message summarizing which rows or cells caused the failure, without altering the existing data.

Benefits

  • Saves time by eliminating the need for manual data cleanup.
  • Reduces the risk of inconsistent or partial data states.
  • Improves user confidence and reliability of the import process.

Thanks!!

You could create a baseline before the import operation and in case of problems, you could go back to the previous baseline and create a new stream from that point to start over.
