Option to enforce common type system across all streams of a component

Hello,

In a Configuration Management enabled DOORS Next project, the menu entry is called "Manage Component Properties", but type system changes (artifact types, attributes, link types, data types, etc.) are actually performed at stream level, so maybe it should be called "Manage Stream Properties", but this is not the question.

This provides flexibility, but it can also lead to inconsistencies between streams belonging to the same component. Such inconsistencies may cause delivery conflicts, duplicate type definitions, reporting issues, and additional administrative effort.

We request an enhancement to provide a new component-level setting such as:

"Enforce common type system across all streams of this component"

When enabled:

  • All streams within the component must share the same type system.
  • Type system modifications performed in one designated master stream are automatically propagated to all other streams in the component.
  • Direct type system modifications in other streams are prevented.
  • Stream creation automatically inherits the current component type system.

When disabled:

  • Current behavior remains unchanged.
  • Each stream can maintain its own independent type system definitions.

Benefits

  • Supports organizations that follow IBM's recommended practice of maintaining a common type system within a component.
  • Reduces administrative overhead.
  • Prevents accidental divergence between streams.
  • Minimizes delivery and reporting issues caused by type system inconsistencies.
  • Preserves the flexibility required by teams that intentionally need stream-specific type systems.

Thanks!!
