Enable DNG to perform in-attribute-field calculations like Excel

Was there market research that concluded this was not a competitive feature? This question comes up on most RFI's. In my case, customers have asked for it, and work-around it when possible, but there are other use cases that can only be accomplished with the Extensions, which is not a simple solution if what they want is a real-time arithmetic equation, string concat or date calculation. We don't have any attribute capabilities that are dependent on other attributes and this would seem to be a 'simple' first step that would put us on par with our competitors.

As part of the review process, we strive to be transparent about our intentions with each enhancement suggestion. The IBM Engineering team has carefully reviewed this idea, and based on our understanding, it does not fit our near-term plans. Although we are closing this request, it will be kept in IBM's ideas repository.  We value your feedback and thank you for allowing us to partner with you in developing our products.

This would be much easier solution to using a widget for scripted attributes.

I like the idea of a calculated attribute as well - that feature could be handy for so many use cases.
