Folder-Based Organization for Test Cases in ETM

Hello,

I’d like to propose a usability enhancement that would significantly improve large-scale test management: native folder-based organization for Test Cases within ETM.

Problem:

In real projects, Test Cases quickly grow into hundreds or thousands. Today, teams rely on tags, naming conventions, or custom views to group them, but these approaches become hard to maintain and don’t reflect an intuitive hierarchy. As a result:

  • Navigating and locating Test Cases is slow.
  • Reuse across releases or components is harder.
  • New team members struggle to understand the test structure.

Proposed Capability

Introduce folders (or hierarchical containers) for Test Cases, similar to how Test Scripts or Requirements are commonly organized in other tools. Key elements could include:

  • Create / rename / delete folders.
  • Drag-and-drop Test Cases into folders.
  • Nested folders for multi-level organization (e.g., Component → Feature → Scenario).
  • Folder-aware filtering and reporting.

Benefits

  • Faster navigation & clarity for daily work.
  • Scales better for enterprise programs with multiple products/releases.
  • Improves reuse by separating stable regression suites from feature-specific cases.
  • Aligns ETM with how teams naturally structure tests in real life.

Thanks!!

Please consider using hierarchical custom categories to organize test cases, see: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/engineering-lifecycle-management-suite/test-management/7.1.0?topic=test-organizing-by-using-categories
We have no plans to support folder in the Quality Management application to organize test cases.
