Expose ETM Category Values in Publishing (PUB) Reports

Currently, ETM with Publishing (PUB) cannot display the values assigned to Categories for test artifacts (e.g., Test Plans, Test Cases, Test Scripts, Test Execution Records). After investigation, this limitation appears to come from the fact that the RQM REST API does not expose Category field values for reporting/publishing purposes. As a result, users cannot include Category-based information in PUB templates or exported documents.

Why This Is Important / Business Impact:
Categories are widely used for classification, compliance, and traceability (for example: safety level, subsystem ownership, test type, project phase, or regulatory grouping). Not being able to report Category values in PUB creates several issues:

  • Loss of traceability in formal documentation (projects must manually copy Category values into documents).
  • Extra manual work and risk of human error during audits and milestones.
  • Inconsistent reporting across teams because Category data cannot be used as a reliable filter or displayed field in final documents.
  • Reduced value of Categories, since they cannot be leveraged in the main customer-facing output (PUB documents).

Requested Enhancement:
Enable Publishing (PUB) to retrieve and display Category values assigned to ETM artifacts, including:

  • The list of Categories applied to an artifact.
  • The value(s) for each Category.
  • Availability of these fields in PUB data sources and template bindings.

If the restriction is at API level, then please extend the RQM REST/OSLC API to expose Category values for relevant artifact types so PUB can consume them.

Thanks!!
