Allow Configurable Category Value Length in ETM

In ETM, there is no native concept of folders to organize artifacts such as Test Cases. A common workaround is to use Categories to simulate a folder structure by creating hierarchical category values.

Ideally, this would be handled through true multi-level hierarchies. However, managing deep category structures is not practical today:

  • Creating multiple hierarchy levels manually is not easy and time-consuming.
  • Excel import does not support creating multi-level category structures efficiently.
  • Bulk Update for Categories requires selecting values down to the lowest level, and not always this is needed.

A solution for this is using a single-level Category and embedding the full “path” in the value itself (e.g., SystemA / ModuleB / FeatureC) to simulate folders in a more manageable way.

However, this approach is limited by the maximum length of category values (100 characters).

Requested Enhancement:
Allow administrators to configure the maximum length of Category values, similar to how attribute sizes can be defined (e.g., Small, Medium, Large), or by specifying a character limit in Advanced Properties.

Use Case:
Teams managing large test repositories need to structure artifacts in a logical, folder-like hierarchy. Since native folders are not available (and the related idea ENGMT-I-640 was rejected), increasing the allowed length of Category values would provide a practical and scalable alternative for representing structured paths within a single category level.
