We see strong value in benchmarking, especially to help partners guide performance and planning, but privacy and data integrity must come first. Our current focus is on high-level, anonymised comparisons across a partner’s own portfolio, not using external datasets.
Example metrics could include:
CO2e intensity (e.g. per m² or per FTE)
Energy intensity (kWh per m², grouped by asset type)
Renewable energy share (%)
Year-on-year reduction trends
Comparisons within industry, by building type
A key challenge is comparing like-for-like. Differences in building size, occupancy, usage patterns, and climate can distort results if not normalised correctly and depending on data completeness/accuracy.
Data quality and completeness will also vary, so early benchmarking may need to stay high-level with clear caveats. For example, normalising by m² or occupancy helps avoid unfair comparisons such as a 100-person office vs a 1000-person office with very different HVAC demands.
We’re keen to understand specific use cases this would support (for example target validation, reporting, or advisory services). Please share any supplementary information if available so it can inform requirements as this evolves.
