We recently released an update to pre-fill the dates on a data capture form with the dates in the request which can be enabled from Admin -> Issue Settings. I believe this will resolve the issue being described of users inadvertently creating overlapping records due to setting the wrong dates. We are also planning to release an alert when a duplicate or overlapping record is created which will help in this scenario. Please let us know if these features will meet your requirements or if there are other scenarios where restricting data entry to a single record is required.
