IBM Sustainability Software - Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against the products and services belonging to IBM Sustainability Software. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

To have OPC UA Subscription method to the IBM MAS Monitor - EDC stack

Why is it useful?

Instead of continuously polling a server for data updates (which can be inefficient), subscriptions allow a client to receive notifications only when data changes or meets certain conditions. This is done through a publish-subscribe model.

Benefits of the subscription mode:

1. Efficiency & Reduced Network Load

  • Clients don't need to repeatedly request data.
  • Only changes or events are sent, reducing bandwidth usage.

2. Real-Time Monitoring

  • Ideal for applications like SCADA, MES, or predictive maintenance.
  • Enables fast reaction to changes in sensor values, alarms, or system states.

3. Scalability

  • Supports multiple monitored items in a single subscription.
  • Can be tuned with parameters like sampling interval, publishing interval, and queue size.

4. Event-Driven Architecture

  • Supports not just data changes but also event notifications (e.g., alarms, system messages).

5. Customizable Behavior

  • You can configure:
    • Sampling interval: how often the server checks for changes.
    • Publishing interval: how often updates are sent to the client.
    • Deadband filters: to ignore insignificant changes.

7. Robustness

  • Built-in mechanisms for retransmission, keep-alive, and error handling.
  • Ensures reliable communication even in unstable networks.
