Enhance Alert Traceability and False Positive Management in IBM Maximo Monitor

Currently, when an alert is generated in IBM Maximo Monitor, users have limited visibility into the specific metric reading and timestamp that triggered the alert. Additionally, there is no native mechanism to classify an alert as a false positive or capture the rationale behind such classifications.

It would significantly improve alert analysis and operational efficiency if the Alert Dashboard provided:

  • A "False Positive" checkbox to mark alerts that do not require action.
  • A dedicated field to capture the reason for marking an alert as a false positive.
  • A column displaying the metric reading that breached the threshold and triggered the alert.
  • A column displaying the timestamp of the metric reading that caused the alert.

Business Value

  • Improves alert traceability and auditability.
  • Reduces investigation time by providing immediate visibility into the triggering reading and timestamp.
  • Enables organizations to analyze and trend false positives, helping refine thresholds and alerting strategies.
  • Improves user confidence in the alerting framework by providing greater context and transparency.
  • Supports continuous improvement of predictive maintenance and condition monitoring programs through actionable operational feedback.

Expected Outcome

Users will be able to quickly understand why an alert was generated, identify and document false positives, and leverage historical false-positive data to optimize monitoring configurations, resulting in more effective and reliable alert management.
