Visibility Into MAS License Usage Cron Task Results

The MASLICUSAGE cron task does a great job is calculating the license type required based on a user's Manage security. When a user is calculating as requiring a license type different than anticipated there is no visibility into the factors that caused the cron task to calculate the license type.

For example, if a user is anticipated to require a LIMITED license but they then calculate as a PREMIUM it would be helpful to know what access is causing this elevated access. The app point requirements between a LIMITED and PREMIUM is significant and could cause a compliance issue. When situations are discovered the admin is required for fully understanding all licensing rules as they apply to the implemented security groups.  This is a skill set that is very specialized and the analysis is very time consuming.

The request is to provide visibility into the calculation. This could be a UI within Manage that the user level that indicates the applications that are demanding the license type that is calculated. Another options would be as simple as enabling DEBUG logging for the cron task that would log the needed details.

Have the additional visibility would reduce the need to reach out to support for explanations. This would also allow for issues or bugs within the cron task to be investigate compared to licensing rules.

Kim, thanks for the response. Are you linking it to another piece of work that is available outside of IBM or shareable? I am curious what the plan is.

Thank you for your submission. We are linking this to another piece of work that will provide more visibility into user entitlement and cost that is targeted for the 2025 release.
