Allow One or More Designated Putaway Bins

We would like to have one or more designated putaway bins with the following associated logic:

  • Optionally, automatically create an inventory usage record for transfer to the default bin upon receipt to the putaway bin

  • Streamline transfer to the default bin (1-click with optional override to transfer to a different bin)

  • Optionally, prohibit issuance from the putaway bin unless the current balance in all other locations is zero

  • Allow for putaway bins to be contained in a putaway storeroom

Otherwise, putaway bins would be like any other bins (financially and functionally). These bins would not substitute for the HOLDING location which would continue to be used for WINSP and WASSET.

Reason

At receiving, items received may not be immediately put away for a number of reasons. For example,

  • The designated bin(s) may be full

  • There may be no designated bin (new items added to stock)

  • Teams may be backlogged and unavailable to put away arriving stock

Without putaway bins, received inventory cannot be appropriately tracked within the warehouse, and manager have minimal insight into the putaway work remaining to be done.

Today, teams can designate one or more bins as putaway bins, but these do not have the proposed associated logic. Furthermore, this is a common inventory management need and should be part of the core product.
