When Asset Costing is used the work/job plan material should have the option of how to derive the unit cost

Currently when asset costing is used the work plan materials unit cost will be zero even if all the rotating assets in the storeroom have the same inventory cost. A unit cost should be added (it can easily be missed by the planner) otherwise you are approving a value for the work order which is likely to be exceeded as soon as the rotating item is issued.

The same occurs with a Job Plan, the unit cost is zero and this means that your forecast costs on PMs will not take account the cost of the rotating items.

For both Job Plan and Work Plan Materials there should be an option to determine how to derive a unit cost. It is suggested an option is added to Organizations - Inventory Costs, below the Non-Capitalized Rotating section with a radio button with three options.

Asset Costing Planned Costs uses:

  • Zero (the default)

  • Average (the average of the inventory cost on each rotating asset in the selected storeroom)

  • Maximum (the largest inventory cost of the rotating assets in the selected storeroom)

Ideally, for Job Plans there ought to be a Cron Task which can be used to periodically update the Unit Cost with the Average or Maximum instead of having to manually revise the. job plan, change the cost and approve again.

In reviewing, we'd like to ask if using the Maximum cost as the default as opposed to Zero would be acceptable. Would there be other impacts? I don't see the ability to create new options in setup for this as feasible in the short term. Thanks for your feedback.
