There is no ability to modify the failure hierarchy after it has been used, you will receive the error BMXAA1159E - Failure list is referenced by a failure report and may not be deleted.
There should be an option on a failure code that is part of a failure hierarchy to make it inactive, this would make children in the failure list also inactive. It should also be possible to reverse this, as mistakes do happen. If you made a failure class inactive this would change all problems, causes and remedies inactive. If you made a problem code in a failure class inactive this would change its cause and remedy codes inactive, and so forth.
If you reversed the problem code and made it active again it would only change that record, it would not change its cause and remedy codes, you would need to do this manually as you might be making a code active that had been set to inactive for a long time. Also, if the failure class was set to inactive then you could not change the problem code to active, you would need to set the parent in the failure hierarchy the same state first.
The default for failure codes added to a failure hierarchy is Active. This would be an additional field. The Delete button would be unaffected.
An Inactive failure code in a failure list will not display when creating a failure report in work order based applications and in ticket based applications (Incident and Problem).
