BARCODE / QR code

IBM Maximo currently lacks built-in support for barcode and QR code reading and printing. While Maximo can work with third-party tools and custom integrations to enable these capabilities, there is no native functionality available within the platform to handle barcode or QR code generation, scanning, or printing out of the box.

This idea has been delivered in 9.2. There is now a component in the MAF (Graphite) framework called "barcode-generator" that can be tied to a text input or data source and generate a barcode for printing purposes. See the MAF documentation area for more information.

IBM Maximo should provide a native, UI-based capability for generating, encoding, and printing barcode and QR code labels. The current approach relies heavily on custom BIRT reports, Java libraries, and code-driven solutions, creating unnecessary complexity and maintenance overhead. Many competing EAM platforms offer built-in label generation tools, and a similar feature in Maximo would significantly improve usability, reduce customization, and simplify deployment.

There is a method in MAS 9.2 to use the MAF configuration tool to add a barcode generator into an application, via the app.xml. You can then render the generated image, and print the screen.

    Hi,

We are moving from Maximo 7.6.1.3 to MAS premium shared environment; can the barcode generator jar file will be deployed in the server to use the barcode functionality?

Thank you for the submission. The reading piece for barcodes and QR's codes is currently supported, there are plans to add a capability to print barcodes/qr codes.
