IBM Sustainability Software - Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against the products and services belonging to IBM Sustainability Software. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Life Sciences requirement: Calibration Multiple Input and Calculation Support

Request: Allow a data sheet option for users to have multiple inputs that can independently perform a calculation and automatically populate an output value, which is then compared to tolerances.

Use case: A technician is doing a test that requires input of multiple values to make a calculation, such as mass comparison. The desired result is that the output of the calculation be populated to the As Found Output field for comparison to tolerances. In the mass comparison example, the required inputs would be:

  • A = The nominal mass of the unit under test
  • B = The actual mass of the calibration standard
  • C = The measured difference between the calibration standard and the unit under test

(note that B + C will equal the actual mass value of the unit under test).

From these values, the actual mass difference (D) between the calibration standard and the unit under test should be calculated and auto-populated into the As Found Output field for comparison to tolerances. The calculation is as follows:

D = (B + C) – A

This is currently not possible in Maximo. The use case presented only uses addition and subtraction in the formula, but an option to use other operations would be beneficial to other types of calculations.

This idea would make it possible to perform more complex calibrations directly within Maximo. Having the ability to run different types of calculations on multiple input and/or output values prior to pass/fail determination would be a major functionality boost.
