Create and manage a Free Issue Storeroom

There are low cost parts where tracking the balances, and recording issues does not provide any value to an organisation. The parts, bolts, screws, washers etc are held in bins which will be replenished from another storeroom through a transfer, often a box is transferred and the contents emptied into the bin for use. The free issue storeroom does not need balances there will never be any reservations and there are no issues or returns. There is no reorder routine on a free issue storeroom, there will never be a physical count.

An Inventory Usage record can be created on a storeroom of type Transfer (not Issue or Mixed) where the From Storeroom provides quantities of items to the To Storeroom (the Free Issue storeroom). The cost of the transfer goes against the control account of the free issue storeroom, so that finance knows the value of stock issued to the free issue storeroom over the year. I don't think there would be much of a change to Inventory Usage, only to stop the INVUSE.FROMSTORELOC from being a Free Issue storeroom.

This is not easy to handle in Maximo today as everything is geared around reservations, issues, inventory cost and balances, none of which is needed. We have a client where they are trying to fudge this without it interfering with other processes, we can act as a design partner. This client has >40 sites with an Inventory working party, so it would be easy to find out how much this would be needed in other sites around the world.

Thank you for submitting the idea, we greatly value the feedback! The functionality requested is available by creating a synonym domain based on the internal Location type 'Repair' (or using Repair type itself). Replenishing these 'Free Issue Storeroom' Locations would require issuing the items once from the supplying central Storeroom. Such a Location would not hold balance records nor require reservations or further Issues, but also maintain their own unique GL Account for annual reporting purposes. Was there any consideration of this solution, and if yes, was there a problem specific to the use case?
