Reorder inventory items as a manufacturing request to an internal workshop

In Inventory we have the possibility to reorder from a vendor or an internal storeroom. 
It is quite common that customers are also making their own spare parts. 
Especially as 3D printers have become increasingly used.

There should be a third option in the reorder process where the outcome is a request to manufacture the parts. 

In my mind this could be a work order addressed to a workshop. 
The work order could then be prepared using a job plan (maybe dynamic). 
After completion, the cost from the work order should be used to calculate the unit cost of the parts produced. 
This unit cost is then used when receiving the parts into inventory.

    Hi,

    Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. Unfortunately, after evaluating this idea, we don’t believe it aligns with our product strategy and roadmap. Therefore, we will not be considering it for inclusion in our product at this time. Thank you again for your feedback.

    Thank you for submitting the Idea, we greatly value the feedback. We'll be consider options to deliver this functionality in the future. As of today, you do have the ability to set up an internally manufactured variant of an item (copy the original item in Item Master) and using a Job Plan, designate this Item to generate a Work Order on PO approval. Using this setup you can run a Preorder at the Storeroom that needs the item, generate a Purchase Requisition for the Item, an internal Purchase Order from the PR, and on approving said PO, a WO will be generated of which the contents can instruct to manufacture the item in the workshop (also accounting for the cost). At the moment we do not have an out-of-the-box step for the item to be received / item balance to be increased and cost adjusted on Completion of this WO - this is the portion of the Idea we will be looking into.
