Restore green boolean indicator option in MAS Manage 9 (table/list readability)

After migrating from MAS Manage 8 to MAS Manage 9, boolean fields in tables and forms are now displayed as standard checkboxes instead of the green visual indicator previously available.

This change reduces readability and slows down users when scanning large tables and comparing records.

In MAS 8, the green boolean indicator provided quick visual identification across many applications.

Request:
Provide a configuration option (system property, UI setting, or per-application option) to enable the green boolean indicator again in MAS Manage 9.

This would allow customers to choose between:

  • standard checkbox (current design)

  • green boolean indicator (MAS 8 style)

Business impact:
Many users rely on fast visual scanning of lists. The checkbox design negatively affects usability and efficiency in daily operations.

    Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. Unfortunately, after evaluating this idea, we don’t believe it aligns with our product strategy and roadmap. Therefore, we will not be considering it for inclusion in our product at this time. Thank you again for your feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. We truly value our relationship with you and appreciate your willingness to share details about your experience, your recommendations, and ideas. Our team has reviewed this enhancement request and determined that it is unfortunately not a candidate for inclusion in the product.

The toggle component is a generic control, but in most scenarios, it requires a save to be performed elsewhere on the page in order to a activate the choice that is made. This pattern is defined here, and Maximo is adhering to it. This guidance is new, and caused the Maximo team to alter their designs, which we apologize for.

To increase contrast on tables, it is worth looking at the CSS editing capabilities in 9.0 which will allow complete control of the skin (at your own risk) to alter CSS such as fonts, colors, spacing, etc. This would allow you to create a custom styling for the check boxes that look more like a toggle.

If you would like to be involved in other Maximo enhancements, please email smithjor@us.ibm.com to become part of our sponsored user group, which is a program where you and people in your organization become active participants in the Maximo design process, working alongside our design teams to help us create great future experiences for real target users.
