Sorting a table by a relationship value

Today, I can only sort by a field on the current table.  I want to be able to sort on the result of a relationship.  

An example is AssetSpec and the field DisplaySequence.  The problem is that writes at the time the record is created and if I add new fields to a classification in any place other than at the end of the list of fields some records are sorted different from others.  As I am going Next -> Next -> Next, the order of those fields shift around.  The only solution I found was to write a database function that returns the current sort order from the ClassSpec table.

This is an unsupported customization that we feel forced to make due to the lack of out of the box support.  This is far from the only example where this is needed.

    Hi,

    Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. Unfortunately, after evaluating this idea, we don’t believe it aligns with our product strategy and roadmap. Therefore, we will not be considering it for inclusion in our product at this time. Thank you again for your feedback.

    Thank you for the Idea. Out of box Maximo only supports sorting table data by attributes that belong to the current object. Sorting by relationship‑derived attributes is not supported. Although relationship values can be displayed, they cannot be used as sort keys, which can lead to inconsistent ordering when navigating records if the underlying sequence changes over time. This functionality is working as designed in product.
