Usage status remains in SHIPPED after completing Inventory Usage for storeroom transfer

Inventory transfers between storerooms are managed in Maximo using Inventory Usage (Transfer) transactions. When a transfer is shipped, Maximo creates an associated Shipment Receiving record. Once the goods are physically delivered, warehouse staff complete the shipment receipt to confirm the stock has arrived.

In this scenario, two Inventory Usage transfer transactions (e.g. A and B) were shipped and received, however the related Inventory Usage records cannot be progressed to COMPLETE due to an error when attempting to update the usage status.

This has created a recurring operational need to complete Inventory Usage records that are legitimately shipped/received but blocked due to a system error.

Business Impact:

Impacts warehouse operations and inventory control when transfers cannot be completed.

Usages stuck in SHIPPED create:

  1. Process and reporting inaccuracies (transfers appear incomplete)
  2. Additional manual effort to identify completed transfers
  3. Reduced confidence in transfer workflow integrity
  4. Automating completion for eligible records will:
    1. Reduce manual remediation effort
    2. Improve data consistency and timeliness
    3. Ensure transfer transactions reflect the real-world movement of goods
