Context
Submitting this idea for the client using qualifications at Task Work Order and its Plan Labor.
The Plan Labor qualifications are generally a sub-set of its Task's qualifications i.e.., not all task qualifications apply to every plan labor record.
The idea is general in nature and beneficial for all Maximo customers by providing positive user experience.
Problem Statement
When creating a work order from scratch without a Job Plan, or when adding qualifications to existing work orders that were created without qualifications, the current process requires an excessive number of clicks and navigation steps. This significantly impacts usability and efficiency for planners and schedulers.
Current Behavior
1. The Qualification field (with button to open dialog) for Task and Plan Labor is only available within the detailed view of a Work Order Task and its associated Planned Labor records. Users must repeatedly scroll vertically and horizontally to locate the field.
2. After locating the Qualification field, selecting it opens the Qualification Requirements dialog. However, the dialog allows the user to add only one qualification at a time.
3. For tasks requiring multiple qualifications, users must repeatedly:
This results in a large number of clicks and makes the process inefficient and frustrating, particularly when updating multiple tasks and labor records.
4. Qualifications cannot be entered directly against Planned Labor. Users must first add qualifications to the Task and then separately manage the related Planned Labor records.
Requested Enhancement
1. Improve accessibility of the Qualification field
Make the Qualification field button to open dialog available directly as a visible in table column field, rather than only within the detailed record view.
We have built this using application designer, but would be best if available in OOTB, for the benefit of all Maximo customers
Reduce the amount of scrolling and navigation required to access qualification information.
2. Enable multi-select qualification entry
3. Provide a single point of maintenance
Currently, qualification maintenance is fragmented between Work Order header, Task Work Order and Planned Labor records, resulting in duplicate effort and additional user actions.
Option A: Planned Labor Driven Qualification Management
Allow users to add and remove multiple qualifications directly from the Planned Labor record.
When a new qualification is added to Task's Planned Labor, automatically add that qualification to the parent Work Order Task if it does not already exist.
This would eliminate the need for users to maintain the same qualification information in multiple places and ensure consistency between Tasks and Planned Labor.
Option B: Centralized Qualification Management Dialog
Provide a single dialog or workspace where users can manage all qualifications associated with a Work Order Task and its related Planned Labor records in one place.
Allow users to add multiple qualifications in a single operation.
Display qualifications in a grid or matrix format, enabling users to easily assign or remove qualifications through simple tick/untick selections.
Allow users to see at a glance which qualifications apply to the Task and which apply to each Planned Labor record.
Automatically synchronize qualification assignments between the Task and Planned Labor where appropriate.
4. Same improvements to be applied to the Job Plans applications
Expected Benefits
Significantly fewer clicks and navigation steps.
Reduced data entry effort and risk of missed qualifications.
Faster work order planning and maintenance.
Improved user productivity.
Improved visibility of qualification requirements.
Eliminates duplicate data entry.
Simplifies qualification maintenance across Tasks and Planned Labor.
Better overall user experience for qualification management.
Great idea from an end-user usability perspective.
