Maximo 7.6+ should use SQL Server sequences like Maximo does for Oracle and DB2. Maximo 7.6+ only supports SQL Server 2012 and above, and starting in SQL Server 2012, SQL Server supports sequences (see: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/statements/create-sequence-transact-sql)
There are a lot of advantages to using database sequences over the special way that Maximo handles sequences for SQL Server today. It would make Maximo function similarly on SQL Server as it does on all the other database platforms, it prevents the loss of values as the system is restarted (since Maximo reserves numbers in chunks), and simplifies when administrators insert records to address issues with the Maximo product or perform dataloads.
There are Maximo products (like Oil & Gas) that have stored procedures that use direct updates to MAXSEQUENCE instead of being able to simply get the next value from a database sequence.
