UI Sort Order for Domains should be Index Independent

When displaying data from Domains in the UI (e.g. a Combobox control), the sort order for the returned information is based on the DB2 index used to gather the result set. Sometimes, this means the presented data may be in an unusual order (e.g. descending).

As the DB2 index is not predetermined by Maximo and may include reverse order sorts, the presented data may be in an undesirable sort order. This is especially problematic if the indexes are controlled by the DBA (as opposed to the development team).

UI controls which use LOOKUP.xml (e.g. a Textbox control) can override the sort order by including an ORDERBY tag in the XML. Unfortunately, many UI elements do not provide such an override (e.g. the Combobox control).

If a DBA or developer adds in a new index (e.g. for performance or as part of a fixpack) with a sort order different from the currently preferred index, and DB2 finds this index more desirable, the sort order may change in the UI. As IBM said in relation to PMR 15813, without the ability to order presented data independent of the index, sort order is not guaranteed in the presentation.

In conclusion, we think that either an ordering method should be available for all UI controls or presented data should default to an ascending sort order based on the data presented.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
    Brand - Internet of Things
    Product family - Component
Product - Tivoli Process Automation Engine (TPAE)

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Component
Product - Tivoli Process Automation Engine (TPAE)
