This portal is to open public enhancement requests against the products and services belonging to IBM Sustainability Software. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

It would be helpful if we could batch-edit custom fields via an expression from within a Maximo application. The functionality could be like the Change Status action/window (supports bulk edits), but lets administrators choose the custom field and enter an expression. Maximo/MIF business rules would be enforced.
For example, use Python, MBR or formula functions to UPDATE a custom field (honoring the List View WHERE clause).
Currently, the options we have for this aren't ideal:
- DB UPDATE statement (unsupported; requires DBA involvement; ignores Maximo/MIF business rules)
- MxLoader (unsupported; takes too much time to set up just for a one-time field update)
- Application import/export (clunky; object structure setup needed -- even for a minor, one-time field update)
Maximo is a multi-million dollar system and includes fancy technology like AI. But it seems to be missing some basic functionality -- like batch editing fields by administrators. Ideally, we wouldn't need to resort to unsupported, homemade Excel tools for bulk data editing. We paid too much money to be saying things like, "screw this, just export it to Excel."
