Rules Engine

As a way to avoid excessive coding via automation scripts, it would be helpful if IBM could implement a rules engine:

  • Provide "if this, then that" logic approach to any MBO without having to write custom code.

  • Via a table with the following fields:

    • rulename

    • rulesequence

    • isruleactive (to disable rule if needed)

    • objectname

    • attributename

    • condition (evaluate to true or false); uses conditional expressions

    • action (if true) - optional

    • action (if false) - optional

  • On validate() — for the MBO that determines which rules to execute and in what sequence.

    To IBM,

Glad to hear this is going to planned for a future release.

If you wish to reach out to us please do so. We have implemented the described Rules Engine which is working well for us and there is much more detail we can provide to help provide some history and rationale for some of the design decisions taken.

Would be extremely useful if such an implementation was available in the core product.

It would take care of (for us) 95% of validation ,reducing the need for workflow and custom code.
