Dynamically show labor records based on security group in Maximo Mobile application

In Maximo Manage and for the Role based application it is straightforward to select options for Labor Authorization within a security group to filter which labors records users are allowed to view. For the Mobile application, the preloaded db does not take these options into account, but the purpose is to generate the data needed for all applications and all users of that database, thus to download all labor records regardless of security groups. This lack of filtering in the Mobile application is causing issues when the customer requires dynamic filtering of labor records based on the user's labor authorization as per security groups, following the standard Maximo logic for labor visibility in lookups as well as the reported hours section.

Currently, to display only the logged in user's labor record in the Mobile application, a setQbe filter must be added within the application, and if a filter based on a security group (sigoption) is needed, it can only be made static/hard coded and requires continuous maintenance.

The suggestion is to implement a feature that checks which labor records the logged in user is authorized to view based on the user profile and security group memberships, and filter the records in the Mobile application accordingly, without relying on static/hard coded security groups/sigoptions.

It would be an important feature to be able to dynamically show labor records as per security group and in the Mobile application, only by adding the user to the security group in Maximo, without requiring any code configuration for the Mobile application.

The solution is to enable customers to define lookup datasources that should not be included in the preload database. IE a flag on the maximo-datasource that says mobile-preload="false" to indicate that it should not be included in the preloaded database and downloaded interactively as the user (similar to transaction data). This would enable all Maximo data restrictions to be applied while still taking advantage of the preload database on the bulk datasets (asset, locations, inventory, etc.) that lead to performance challenges in the fields.

Customers cannot opt out of preload databases given their importance in performance. And it works well for the majority of the datasets. But there are a few that tend to be small datasets (most customers only allow users to report labor for themselves or their crew) that have high variability that would benefit being retrieved using the REST API instead.

Functionality is already available when user is not using Preloaded databases. While preload acts as a template for multiple users (regardless of security), the classic method of not using preloaded databases would use current user's credential to download the data, hence respecting the defined security privileges in base Maximo. There is not a technical way to support classic Maximo security settings - data restrictions (sql driven approach) to the Mobile app (qbe approach). Thanks for your feedback!
