Show Unit Abbreviation for Meters in Maximo Mobile Inspections

In Maximo Mobile, meter units are displayed only in uppercase (e.g., “M”, “K”), but the unit description and abbreviation are not shown.
This creates confusion for technicians because uppercase unit names can represent different meanings. Examples:

“M” (mega) vs “m” (meter or milli)

“K” (kilo) vs “k” (kelvin or different unit abbreviations)

Since Maximo Mobile forces unit names to uppercase and hides the description and abbreviation fields, the user cannot distinguish similar-looking units. This can lead to incorrect meter readings or misinterpretation of values in the field.

    Thank you for the clarification.

    The request is not about allowing lowercase unit IDs or creating case-sensitive units such as M and m.

    In Maximo this is indeed not possible because MEASUREUNITID is stored as UPPER, which is perfectly fine.

    The request is about which field Maximo Mobile displays.

    In the MEASUREUNIT object we have:

    • MEASUREUNITID → technical identifier (stored uppercase)

    • ABBREVIATION → user-friendly unit abbreviation

    • DESCRIPTION → full unit description

    Currently Maximo Mobile displays the MEASUREUNITID, for example:

    PRESSURE (BAR)

    However, the ABBREVIATION field already exists specifically for display purposes and may contain a more accurate representation of the unit, such as:

    bar°Cm³

    The request is therefore simply:

    If ABBREVIATION is populated, display ABBREVIATION instead of MEASUREUNITID in Maximo Mobile.

    For example:

    Current behavior:

    PRESSURE (BAR)

    Requested behavior:

    PRESSURE (bar)

    The screenshots attached illustrate that MEASUREUNITID is uppercase by design, while ABBREVIATION contains the correct display value, which is currently not used in the Mobile UI.

    Thanks for your feedback. A meter in Maximo is unique and typically "ID" attributes would be upper case, which makes the example you provided, invalid. M and m would be accepted, which means you'd need different codes. Currently the unit measurement code from meter readings are displayed in the Inspecitons app.
