Maximo Mobile Toggle for Online only

Maximo Mobile was initially released as an online-only solution. It later evolved to support both online and offline capabilities, with an offline-first design approach.

The proposed idea is to give organizations explicit control over how they operate—whether in online-only mode, offline-only mode, or a hybrid of both. Ideally, this would be configurable via a global System Property.

This flexibility is increasingly relevant as some organizations are investing in technologies such as satellite connectivity (e.g., Starlink), enabling field technicians to remain reliably connected at all times. In these scenarios, the need for offline synchronization is significantly reduced—especially considering that offline sync in Maximo Mobile can take 3–5 minutes at best. With stable connectivity, a fully online model is often more efficient.

At the same time, not all organizations will adopt such technologies and will continue to depend on offline capabilities. Given how much has changed in the six years since Maximo Mobile was introduced, implementing a simple, configurable system property would allow each organization to align the application’s behavior with its operational and infrastructure realities.
