Geo-Proximity Based Asset Filtering when raising ad hoc SR in Maximo Mobile

Currently in Maximo Mobile, technicians must manually search or filter assets, which can be time-consuming and inefficient—especially in large or asset-dense environments. A key challenge is that users often cannot locate assets unless they already know the asset number or description. This becomes even more difficult when assets are not physically tagged or labels are missing, damaged, or not easily visible in the field. As a result, technicians may struggle to identify the correct asset, leading to delays, errors, and reduced productivity.

We propose an enhancement where assets are automatically filtered and prioritized based on the technician’s real-time geographic proximity using device GPS. The solution should also support a configurable proximity radius (e.g., 200 meters, 500 meters, up to 1 km), with the ability for customers or administrators to adjust these thresholds based on site requirements.

User Benefits:

  • Eliminates dependency on knowing asset numbers or descriptions
  • Helps identify assets even when physical tags are missing or unclear
  • Reduces time spent searching and manually filtering assets
  • Improves accuracy in selecting the correct nearby asset
  • Enhances productivity by surfacing only relevant, location-based assets
  • Provides flexibility through configurable proximity radius settings
  • Improves response time for maintenance, inspections, and service tasks
  • Delivers a more intuitive, location-aware mobile experience

This enhancement would significantly improve field usability, especially in real-world scenarios where asset identification is challenging due to missing or unclear tagging.
