Display Previous Meter Reading in MAS Mobile

Our organization has a dedicated field team that performs railway measurements in remote and difficult-to-access outdoor locations. These technicians use the standard meter functionality (40+ per work order) in Maximo Mobile to register measurement values while working in the field.

During these inspections, it is very important for the technician to immediately see the previous meter reading when entering a new value. Without this reference, it is difficult to determine whether the new measurement is realistic or if there may be an abnormal deviation.

This is especially important because unexpected deviations can automatically trigger follow-up work orders. Since maintenance activities in remote railway areas are complex and difficult to plan, avoiding unnecessary work orders is essential.

At the moment, Maximo Mobile only allows the user to enter a new meter reading, but it does not show the previously recorded value during entry. This means technicians have to rely on memory or look up historical information separately, which is not practical in field conditions.

We would therefore like to request an enhancement in Maximo Mobile that shows the previous meter reading directly on the meter entry screen.

Ideally, the following information would be visible:

  • Previous meter reading

  • Date/time of the previous measurement

  • Optional: calculated difference between the previous and new value

Having this information available during data entry would help technicians validate measurements immediately, improve data quality, and reduce unnecessary follow-up work caused by incorrect or unexpected readings.

We believe this would be a valuable usability improvement for organizations that perform field inspections and measurements in remote operational environments.

FYI ... this is an early view on how it's going to look like in the upcoming 9.2 release. I believe it addresses what you're requesting

Thanks for your feedback, just cross checking ... is this for regular meter entry in Mobile Technician / Asset? Or meter readings collected as part of an inspection form?
