Enable Hierarchical Location Filtering in Maximo Mobile List Views (Include Child Locations)

Currently in IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) 9 Mobile (Manage – Mobile for Work Orders, Service Requests, Assets, and Inspections), the list view filtering by Location only returns records that are directly associated with the selected Location.

Business users, however, operate within hierarchical location structures and expect filtering to behave accordingly. When a parent Location is selected (e.g., ‘10-St. John’s’), the filter should return not only records associated with the selected parent location, but also all records associated with its child and descendant locations in the hierarchy.

Current Behavior

  • Selecting a Location in mobile filter returns records for:
    • Exact Location match only.

Expected Behavior

  • Selecting a parent Location should return:
    • Records associated with the selected Location
    • PLUS records associated with all child (and optionally descendant) Locations

Use Case Example

  • Location: 10-St. John’s
  • Current result: Displays records only for 10-St. John’s
  • Expected result: Displays records for:
    • 10-St. John’s
    • All child locations under 10-St. John’s

Why This Matters

This behavior is already a common expectation in Maximo Manage (web) and aligns with how users conceptualize asset/location hierarchies. Lack of this functionality in Mobile results in:

  • Incomplete data visibility
  • Additional manual filtering effort
  • Increased user frustration and inefficiency in field operations

Suggested Enhancement Options

  • Add a toggle in filter UI:
    • “Include Child Locations” (ON/OFF)
  • Automatically expand location hierarchy during filtering
  • Support recursive descendant inclusion (multi-level hierarchy)
