Telematic Imports versus API

Seems mapping XML/XSD and file storage location is a bit outdated when you have a robust API. Why not allow an object structure for external system to push data into? I know you can create one, however, it seems you should be able to automate this function via the API versus file storage via ORG(TR) template. Right now I would have to export from external system then import, when I should be able to use the API and push the external system to PLUSTTELETRANS. Mandating a template should be optional at that point?
