The map as a primary user interface navigating through assets, requests and work

Maximo is a database application presenting data in a tabular / textual format.

When dealing with assets and/or work spatially arranged, the user will benefit greatly by navigating spatially (as module implies) through the collected information.

Currently the Spatial module is a secondary view point of a single asset work. This means the user will first have to know the specific object (asset, work, request etc) and then see it visually.

Admittedly there is some functionality to perform actions with multiple objects but the essence of this request to turn the functionality "around".

The user will be presented with a map view of his/her area of concern and visualize work, assets, requests (and anything else???) spatially to initiate actions, queries, selections, etc.

Our unsuccessful attempt to "simulate" something like this was to make the Map tab on the ASSET and WOTRACK applications to be the first tab. However the functionality of the Map Control is based on the pre-existence of a data source (MAINRECORD or results_showlist). The experiment worked partially, because the List tab MUST be the first tab so that the data source can be populated. I am sure there may be other ways, more elaborate, to achieve the objective.

We find that the competitive applications have this option to visualize assets and work and perform GIS actions from within the Asset Management application.
