Delete Assets to be able to Reuse Asset Numbers

We often receive invoices where the price of the asset is different than what the asset was received at. In version 6, we were able to return the asset, delete it and re-receive it using the same number. In version 7.6.1, we get an error when trying to delete an asset that was returned. We are going to run out of asset number very quickly if we can't re-use the asset numbers. We attach metal plates with the numbers on them to the assets and this will get very costly if we can't reuse the numbers. We would like to submit this RFE to be able to delete assets and reuse the numbers.

    With assetnum being a primary key for assets, along with the significant inventory restructuring in 7.5, this will not be possible for us to consider at this time. Could you add a new field to be the searchable attribute for the id plate?

    Thank you for your submission. It is not best practice to delete asset records that have history in order to reuse the number. Perhaps we are not fully understanding what you are trying to achieve here. Was it only through a receipt/return/re-receipt that you would need to use the same number again?
