TRIRIGA Hierarchy Cache Rebuild - needs redesign

Currently when the hierarchy cache requires a rebuild, (either on server restart, when invalidated, or when requested in admin console), it has the ability to block a large number of threads as other processes wait for the rebuild to happen before they can proceed. When this rebuild takes a long time (in our case 45 minutes) then this can block the system for a long period, creating a significant outage, which obviously can cost the customer a significant amount.

This could be made to function in a more timely manner by allowing a cache to start empty and augmented values when they are requested rather than requiring a full cache build before anything can be done. A full rebuild could always be performed, e.g. nightly, when the system is quieter, but certainly in business hours, it should not perform a full rebuild, as this can lock up the system.

    Hi Lou,

The explanation received from the product team relates to PMRs and APARs which were to address the immediate issue and fixed via standard support process and not an RFE process. This RFE was concerned around a drip feed approach whereby the cache gets built in parallel to the system being operational. The fixes to date do not address this as they only address the short term fixes required for the PMRs raised.

Therefore this RFE has not been completed. There seems to be an understanding that the RFE was met in the APARs which were delivered. The reason for raising this RFE was to differentiate from the PMRs raised, but it seems the PMRs and RFE are getting confused with one another. This RFE will therefore need reopening and delivered according to a 'drip feed' approach which doesn't block other processes from running.

    Thanks.
