Implement a Global Acceptable Date Range Application Setting

End users often enter "invalid" date values across the system into date fields that can cause critical data issues and workflow errors throughout the system where a date field allows for an out of bounds date value (e.g. 01/01/20023 or 01/01/0001). For the vast majority of business applications, these date values have no business value and outright cause failures in workflow logic or create a situation where processes run amok because of the potential for extreme date ranges (e.x. lease payment schedules running for a 2000-year range because of a typo in a date field).

Ideally, there would be a global date range setting that would apply across the system and could be optionally enabled. This would be for those who wish to impose a restriction across their application (say 100-200 years plus or minus) that wouldn't require developers to implement validation workflows for every form that have date fields on them across the system. This could be set at the platform level (in a properties file) or as an application setting that administrators can adjust for their own business needs. This would ensure that dates are required to fall within that date range and always be relevant to the customer's business.

This is a fantastic idea. It will help prevent thousands of work tasks from being generated by a PM with a three digit year, or thousands of payment line items on a lease with a five digit date.
