Cross-component ReqIF

DOORS Next can export a component with its internal links to a ReqIF file. But it can't export two DOORS Next, and more importantly : the links between these two components.

This enhancement could allow users to use ReqIF to export DOORS documents and traceability even if the project has been decomposed into components.

For the moment we must export ReqIF from each component, build a report to get the links created between and then rebuild each link (manually or using a script) on the app that imports the ReqIF files.

Update 2026 from the Jazz France user group

Context: When a project is working with DOORS Next, it relies on the configuration management to manage the different documents in different component (to address different configuration management need). The data stored in the tool need to be shared in a project package for delivery to customer, other partners or for another internal network.

Problem: Since data are managed in configuration, they are split into different ERM components to address the necessity to baseline modules separately. To export data, we use the ReqIF file extension, but we are limited to the component perimeter only. Moreover, links with other components cannot be easily saved.

Impact: Restoration process need to be done through manual process (save informations into specific attribute, creation of multiple ReqIF file, multiple re-import and then re-creation through manual work or by widget). The exchange of a multiple document ReqIF can take up to 4 days where as in DOORS Classic it used to be 1 hour, moreover it introduces a risk of error.

Goal of the idea: Capability to create a multiple data/document ReqIF format based on multiple component

Why it is useful ?: This is a mandatory need when working with a requirement management tool to deliver contractual parts of the product.

How should it work ?: Through a common configuration (global configuration?), manage the capacity to export/import ReqIF of multiple configuration with associated links. User will choose where to import by mapping the module hosted in the ReqIF document to the desired configuration member of the global configuration.

If you are interested in having this feature, there is an other RFE raised by someone else that includes the same use case.

So please vote on the other one (14 votes at the time I wrote this) : https://ibm-ai-apps.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/ENGCS-I-137
