DNG Advanced ReqIF Import Option: Import Tagging Options for possible changes to artefact during import (Unchanged, Modified, Moved, New. Not present in ReqIF)

Description

New Import options for DNG Advanced ReqIF Import: More options under "Import Tagging Options" for different types of changes / states for artefacts after import:

  • Unchanged (i.e. artefacts that exist in the ReqIF, but were not changed by import)

  • Modified (i.e. artefacts that existed in DNG before import and were changed by import (Change other than move))

  • Moved (i.e. artefacts that existed in DNG before import and were moved by import)

  • New (i.e. artefacts that were newly created by import)

  • Not present in ReqIF / Deleted (i.e. artefacts that existed in DNG before import, but do not exist in the ReqIF)

    • Funtionality already implemented in DNG via existing Import tagging Options

For every type of change, the user shall be able to specify the tag that shall be used for this type of change during import. The functionality shall be the same / similar to the existing functionality for artefacts not present in ReqIF, i.e.

  • User can create a new tag

  • User can select an existing tag

DNG shall also make this DNG Advanced ReqIF Import option available via the DNG OSLC API. The corresponding DNG OSLC API shall be public and documented.

Motivation / Reason

After import, users want to be able to quickly review the changes that happened due to a ReqIF import. Users sometimes prefer reviewing and seeing the changes directly in the DNG module, via a column that shows the changes. Tags can be used for this.

Using tags as suggested above has the following advantages:

  • No need to create an additional attribute that shows the changes

  • User can create filter on tags (e.g. "Show me all artefacts that were Modified or Moved during the last import.")

  • Applying a tag does not increase / update an artefacts "Modified On" date

    • Using a "Changes" attribute would update the "Modified On" date and thus not show the "real" "Modified On" date (i.e. the date of the last "real" change)

  • Users are accostumed to a column that shows the changes in the most recent import from IBM eXchange (Unchanged, Modified, Moved, New, are taken from IBM eXchange)

The existing DNG functionality "Compare Change Set with Stream" has the following drawbacks:

  • Can only be used if user imports into Change Set and not directly into stream

  • Many users prefer to work directly in their module and see a "Change" ciolumn (Tag column) instead of using the "Compare Change Set with Stream" GUI
