MAS Installation to support UUID(Slice of UUID) for MAS SaaS

  • Background

    • Current MAS installation takes subdomain prefix as a fact and provisions customer specific environment.

    • This keeps the Key/Critical information unknown to pre-provision a customer environment.

    • e.g. if we have to keep 3 environments in buffer w.r.t Sales Pipeline.

    • acme.suite.maximo.com

      • ACME becomes critical piece of information to start the automation and provisioning

  • Potential solution:

    • if we can take UUID approch to start the automation and assign Customer Domain/URL when it's know.

    • This approach can help us provision environments faster.

  • Concerns

    • naming convention abolishes

      • SSP and SRE Operations is impacted

      • Would need intermittent system holding fact and would be required for mapping the Customer ENV > UUID

      • Monitoring, Instrumentation.

      • ServiceCat. mapping and other impacted areas needs to be discovered.

    This is being investigate to determine if this is feasible. If possible we will add it to the roadmap and schedule. If not technically feasible we will close this.

    Need to understand if this is a practice of SRE deployments or a requirement of openshift. I will ask, and if a requirement if openshift than not sure there is much that could be done short term.
